苦渋の決断 無念

いよいよ、明日１７日朝７時、「Ｒａｌｌｙ Ｎｉｐｐｏｎ」が国立劇場からスタートします。相変わらず「・１２２」ＡＭＡＺＯＮのエンジンからの異音は続き、心なしか異音がどんどん大きくなっているような気がします。昨日から、「・１２３」ＧＴのＯさんとも議論、検討を続けて来ました。ＡＭＡＺＯＮ博士のＮさんも、豊富な経験から、貴重なアドバイスと本当に親身に善処策のアイディアをいただきました。その結果、どうやら、エンジンのカムギアが壊れている（壊れ始めている、、）のが異音の原因と思われます。いずれにせよ、カムギアはエンジンを下ろさなくては確認出来ませんし、あくまで、ＡＭＡＺＯＮの諸先輩方々のご意見では、「問題はカムギア、、」のようです。ＡＭＡＺＯＮのカムギアは、ベークライト製で、経年劣化も含めて、トラブルが出やすい、、、との事。クランクシャフトのギアはスチール製なので、耐久力もあり、トラブルは少ないそうですが、カムギアは、問題が多いようです。ということで、昨夜は一睡もせずに、ありとあらゆる可能性を探り、検証いたしました。その結果、�．�ムギア（もしくはメタル）が壊れている。�∩�っても１００Ｋｍが限界と思われる。��カムギアが壊れると、瞬時にエンジンがブローアップする可能性が大きい。�ぅ┘鵐献鵑�ブローアップすると、エンジン自体のダメージも大きく、別途エンジンを探さなければならないことも想定される。ということで、現況、「まずは」エンジンを壊さず、カムギアのみの交換で済めば、一番安上がり。ま、どうせエンジンを下ろして、開けるのであればオーバーホールも視野におくものの、とにかく、エンジンに被害を広げたくない、、、。そのためには、「Ｒａｌｌｙ Ｎｉｐｐｏｎ」のスタート「のみ」をして、すぐに“無念”とはいえ、リタイヤ、、、。という苦渋の決断を下した次第です。リタイヤ後は、スタートを見送っていただけるＯさんが「・１２２」ＡＭＡＺＯＮをガレージに搬入しドック入り。私とコ・ドライバーのＳ大先輩は、Ｓ大先輩のＶＷポロで、「来年のために、、、」、全行程「Ｒａｌｌｙ Ｎｉｐｐｏｎ」を追従します。「Ｒａｌｌｙ Ｎｉｐｐｏｎ」主催者には、事情を説明。追従の了承、快諾をいただきました。皆様には、多くのご声援、ご支援、ご指導を賜りながらも、この決断に至り、断腸の思いです。「Ｒａｌｌｙ Ｎｉｐｐｏｎ」に全ての照準を合わせて、ここ数ヶ月全力で準備をして来ただけに、「泣くに、泣けない、、、」悔しさと、悲しさ、そして寂しさ、、で、一杯です。しかし、これも、こらからも末長く「・１２２」ＡＭＡＺＯＮと、余生を楽しみたい、、、からに他なりません。辛い決断でしたが、長年モータースポーツの最前線で生きて来て、「攻めるか（戦うか）」、「身の程を知るか」の”見定め”と”決断”が、その後の活動と結果に大きく左右していたのも事実です。ということで、最後の最後、、（オフィシャル協賛のサポートカーＢＭＷが１５台追従するそうなので）、その後ろをＳ大先輩のＶＷポロで「小さくなって」付いて行きます。ただ、せっかくなので、毎日、お昼のレストコントロールと夜の夕食後には、このブログに、「Ｒａｌｌｙ Ｎｉｐｐｏｎ」の現場レポートと写真を上げようと思っています。きっと、オフィシャルＨＰよりも、確実に早く皆さんに「Ｒａｌｌｙ Ｎｉｐｐｏｎ」の雰囲気をお伝え出来るのではないかと思っています。ま、せいぜい、こんなことでもやっていないと、余りにも「悔しく」、「悲しく」、「寂しく」、「虚しく」て、たまりません、、、から、、、、。ということで、今日午後３時から、日比谷地下駐車場で、ピカピカに磨き上げた「・１２２」ＡＭＡＺＯＮにゼッケン、スポンサーステッカーなどをＳ大先輩と共に貼りました。せっかくの晴れ舞台を前に「・１２２」ＡＭＡＺＯＮがとても悲しそうにもにも思えてきます。無念、、、。
Tomorrow is the big day. At 7am, the Rally Nippon will start from the National Theatre. My .122 continues to make strange engine noises and it seems to be getting worse. I have been deep in discussion with Mr. O, owner of the .123 GT. Dr Amazon - Mr. N has given me lots of useful advice. As a result, I have come to the conclusion that the cam gear has broken (or is about to break). In order to see whether this is the case, I need to take out the engine. The Amazon cam gear is made of bake light and is one of the parts that can wear down easily. The crankshaft gear is made of steel so it does not wear down that easily but the camshaft gear does. After losing one nights sleep, 1. the cam gear is broken, 2. the max it will hold up is 100km, 3. there is a high possibility that my engine will blow once the cam gear gives in, 4. if the engine blows, I need to find a replacement engine. This lead me to conclude that the best and cheapest bet was to keep the engine and fix the cam gear. This means, I will start the rally, but will immediately reptire. Mr. O will be there when I retire and bring my .122 back to the service shop for intensive care. My co-driver Mr. S and myself will follow the rally in a VW Polo for our next year's challenge. The organizer have thankfully allowed this. As long as I am going to do this, I have decided I will try my best to keep this blog as updated as possible. My aim is to get more info more quicker than the organizers. Anyway, down at the parking lot of Hibiya, Mr.S and I mournfully put the car number on the .122. Somehow, .122 looked at bit sad.
