あっという間に１２月です。クラシックカーシーズンも終わりに近づいた今日この頃ですが、ちょっと仕事、、、というか仕込みにドイツにやって来ました。還暦を迎える４年ほど前までは、分厚い航空券の束を携えて頻繁に訪れていたドイツですが、ここのとことろ、さっぱりご無沙汰していました。かつて仕事をしていたケルンのＦ１チーム“跡”で久々に熱のこもったミーティングをし、任せっきりのドイツ事務所に顔を出し、、、と３泊４日の相変わらずの強行軍。そんな中でも、ちょうど開催されていた「エッセンモーターショー」に足を運びました。いわば日本での「オートサロン」的な位置づけのモーターショーなのですが、いかにも自動車の国、自動車文化の根付いたドイツらしく、クラシックカーがＧＴカー、チューニングカーと違和感なく同居しているのです。それも、広大な会場の入り口から、いきなりクラシックカーのオンパレードなのです。もちろん、どれも価格表示されていて「一応」売り物。超高値のクラシックカーはもちろん、完全レストア済約３２５万円のVOLVO　１８００エステートから約３５万円ほどのVESPAまで、これを見て歩くのが楽しいのです。さらに、アンティークというか旧いパーツからランプ、アクセサリー、さらにはクラシックカーの古本屋までが会場狭しと並びます。そんな中、私は、随分昔にどこかのイベント会場でも会った「マーシャル」ランプ専門のフランスからやって来たアンティーク屋のおっさんが店を出していました。大昔のドでかいマーシャルランプから私が「・１２２」ＡＭＡＺＯＮにも装着し、大好きでこだわり続ける通称「デベソ」と呼ばれる１９６０年代前半の６６０シリーズのフォグランプまで驚くほど品揃えしています。ワインぶとりのおっさんも私を覚えていてくれて、さっそく発見した「デベソ」を価格交渉。なんと表示の半額でスペア用に譲ってもらいました。今の日本を含めたネット相場の１／３以下の価格でした。さらに、「ガラクタ」を山ほど並べたアンティーク屋では、１９５０年代のＶＯＬＶＯの“オリジナル”キーホルダーを発見。これまたなんと８００円ほどで譲ってもらいました。ニュルブルクリンクのコーナーに並べられた今話題のLexusISF“CCS-R”から、水陸両用車「AMPHICAR」（1967年式）、なぜか「ダイハツ」と書かれたトラバント、さらには、ドイツ軍コーナーの“キャンギャル？！”付き戦車まで、いかにも本場自動車の国の遊び心に溢れたエッセンモーターショーでした。異常に暖かな夕方に美しいイルミネーションのクリスマスマーケットを“チラ”見して、エコノミーのシートに押し込まれて帰国します。明日は、「・１２２」AMAZONで千葉で行われるＴＡＣＣ（東京有明カークラブ）の定例ミーティングに出席せねばならないので、、、、。
Time flies and its already December. Classic car season is going to end soon, but before that, a bit of a job - or rather preparation for one in Germany. I visited the former F1 factory in Koln, met up with my staff in our German branch all in 3 nights 4 days. I also stopped by the Essen Motor Show. Its the equivalent of the Auto Salon in Tokyo, but being in Germany which has a rich auto culture heritage, there were everything from classic cars, GT card to tuned cars. Classic cars were lined up from entrance which were all on sale from high priced one to a 3.25mil yen Volvo 1800 Estate to a 350thd yen Vespa. There were antique parts, head lamps, accesseories and books. In all of this, I found an antique store where I had bought some Marshall lamps in the past. The man at the store rememebered me and we started bargaining on a set of Marshall lamps. I ended up with the lamps at half the price of what was shown, which is about a 3rd of the price that its sold on net sites in Japan. I also found an original 1950s Volvo keyholder which i bought for 800 yen. For the rest, I enjoyed the Lusu ISF "CCS-R", Amphicar (1967), Trabant with Daihatsu written on the side, and a German tank with a campaign girl on top. It was strangely warm in Germany as went to see some Xmas illumination, and hopped back into the plan to get cramped into an economy class seat. I will be back in Japan again in time to participate with my .122 in a TACC meeting in Chiba.
